Formed in 1994 in East Berlin, Germany, this confrontational alternative rock band first came to international prominence when film and television director David Lynch ( Twin Peaks ) declared his admiration and commissioned them to work with him. By this time, Rammstein's explosive, unhinged live shows had already made them famous throughout mainland Europe. The band comprises former Olympic swimmer Till Lindemann (b. 4 January 1963, Leipzig, Germany; vocals), Richard Kruspe (b. 24 June 1967, Wittenburg, Germany; guitar), Paul Landers (b. 9 December 1964, Berlin, Germany; guitar), Christoph Schneider (b. 11 May 1966, Berlin, Germany; drums), Oliver Riedel (b. 11 April 1971, Schwerin, Germany; bass) and "Flake" Lorenz (b. Christian Lorenz, 6 November 1966, Berlin, Germany; keyboards).

Their pyrotechnics earned them comparisons to Kiss, but their frenzied industrial metal sound and dubious lyrics were less obviously commercial. Those lyrics, touching on subjects including child molestation and natural and man-made catastrophes, at first saw them attract a right-wing audience - although the band strenuously deny that this was their intention. Rammstein, allegedly named after the 1988 air show disaster that killed 80, although the word translates directly as "a battering ram made of stone".

They made their debut in September 1995 with Herzeleid, produced in Sweden by Jacob Hellner (previously a veteran of work with Clawfinger ) on a modest budget. Nevertheless, the record sold in excess of half a million copies in Germany alone, and established the band as a potent commercial force. By the time Sehnsucht followed in August 1997, they had extended their popularity via a clutch of headlining appearances at European festivals. Following Lynch's inclusion of two Rammstein songs on the soundtrack to his 1996 movie Lost Highway, US gore-metal fans, who followed controversial acts such as Marilyn Manson and KMFDM, were also won over.

Like Manson, the band were forced to defend themselves after becoming embroiled in the moral outfall from the infamous Colombine High School killings - the two teenage killers had namechecked Rammstein after shooting 15 of their classmates in April 1999.

Although they sing in German, all the band's lyrics are translated in accompanying CD liner notes, adding to their growing international appeal.

Constant reinvention embracing styles beyond the scene – only one German band has such a rigorously ambitious and artistic approach. We're talking about Oomph!. For almost 15 years now, the musical creations of the threesome from Lower Saxony have been shaped by their pioneering spirit. Critics, fans as well as colleagues unanimously say that these three guys rank among “the most revolutionary figures of the German scene”. Rammstein, for instance, openly confess that they have been massively inspired by this band. Their songs have nothing to do with what became known as “Neue Deutsche Härte” – staccato riffs and military march rhythms – towards the end of the Nineties.

OOMPH! know how to combine the cool electronic world with earthy Rock: a kind of human music machine with powerful and extremely varied arrangements.

Since the band was founded in 1989, Dero (vocals, drums), Crap (guitar, keyboards) and Flux (guitar, sampling) have been scouting the musical landscape never coming up against limiting factors. Their self-titled, very electronic debut album was released in 1992; for their following records SPERM (1993) as well as DEFEKT (1995), the industry tried to find new categorizations which alternated between “Electro Metal”, “Industrial” and “Metal Dance” – though no term could completely explain what this band was about. Since the success of the concept album WUNSCHKIND (1996) at the latest, together with extensive tours and festivals all over Europe, major companies began to take an interest in this extraordinary combination of styles. UNREIN (1998) featured a real club hit (“Gekreuzigt”) smoothing the way for PLASTIK in 1999 (including hit singles “Das weisse Licht” and “Fieber” feat. Nina Hagen) which finally took their vision up the German charts and which caused Skunk Anansie to invite OOMPH! as support on their European tour. The seventh and latest opus EGO released in 2001 was OOMPH!'s career highlight so far: the album entered the German Top 20, which was followed by extensive touring throughout Europe along with Finnish Rock grandmasters HIM. The response of the concert audience and the reactions in the forums of the band's own homepage are proof of the enormous popularity that OOMPH!enjoy by now. In 2002, they played festivals such as Ozzfest, With Full Force and Mera Luna.

While other bands try to stay alive in the shadow of successful acts OOMPH! follow new ways. “If you just follow in footsteps of others you won't leave any traces!” According to this credo, they have submitted themselves to the principle of change even in 2003. At the end of this year, OOMPH! are part of GUN RECORDS . The reason for this choice according to the band: “We have been looking for a strong and competent partner who understands OOMPH!'s music, who has a well-functioning distribution department and who – over the last few years – has offered proof that good results can be achieved in Germany and in Europe with this kind of music. GUN have been interested in us since 1996 and therefore know OOMPH! like the back of their hand!”

In 2004 OOMPH! released their single "Augen auf!" which quickly launched them into the charts. The single even took the boys home a gold record! After three long years OOMPH! released their new album "Wahrheit oder Pflicht" Which also brought them home a gold record. A very noticeable difference was Wahrheit oder Pflicht contained exclusively German-text tracks (apart from the limited edition digipak.) After the album two more singles were released. The first was Brennende Liebe which featured L'Ame Immortelle. A video was shot for this single which featured OOMPH! is a horror-esque type setting! The second single was a revised version of Sex hat keine Macht that a video was released with.

2006 is starting the ball rolling again with news of a new OOMPH! single and album coming very soon. The single will be titled "Gott ist ein Popstar" which is set to release on February 24th in Germany. The album is slated shortly after that.

Megaherz 5 Bio (2004)

After the great waves of success in the years 2001 and 2002, in which the music publications described MEGAHERZ as one of the most important representatives of hard German rock music, and after the band has sold over 100,000 CDs, MEGAHERZ is now back. After two years of preparations and intensive song writing, MEGAHERZ present themselves with their new single and new album – more dynamic, more vivid, and better than ever before.

Mathias Elsholz is the name of the new front man with whom MEGAHERZ are beginning their new musical era with s.a.d. music. With him the band itself has gone through a heart transplant and now beats more emotional and alive than ever. In order to realize their new and ambitious goals, they had none other than Ralph Quick (Die Happy, H-Blockx, etc.) on board as producer. The album "5" was recorded in the Lundgaard-Studios in Denmark. The outcome is an outstanding album that spans all genres of the category "Hard and German" – somewhere between industrial, dark rock, electronica, and "fat grooves". An album that rocks and speeds along, but also one that doesn't ignore the sensitive, down-tempo ballads.

The wait was well worth it – MEGAHERZ are back and are longing to show it to everyone.
Herzwerk II Bio (2002)

Rougher, tougher and more organic: three features which, due to their outstanding stage presence, Munich based rock band Megaherz have always been known for. Along with the thrilling intensity of their fifth album"Herzwerk II" these very features mark a development in style and production. " 'Herzwerk II' is our most uncompromising record to date as the songs are less dominated by electronics," guitarist, songwriter and co-producer Christian "x-ti" Bystron explains their latest work. "Now we use electronics only as an enhancement. This way we were able to create a more lively and less perfectionist sound. In short - the band feeling comes across a lot better." The band he is referring to consists of singer Alexx Wesselsky, bass player Wenz and two new members: guitarist Olli Pohl and drummer Jürgen Schlachter (ex Keilerkopf).

Their fans' frequent requests for a studio production which captures the raw energy of their live shows made Megaherz allow themselves to add more live spirit and natural sound to their songs instead of following the usual perfectionist standards. "We kept being told that we come across a lot livelier and more dynamic on stage, and that the fans really want to hear that sound on our records, too." This new approach has turned out very positively in many ways. The thirteen tracks on the album depict Megaherz as a self-confident and vigorous metal band that truly differs from the much cited 'new German tough metal'. Instead, the band considers their music to be of international texture. "The new material is hip, more American rather than Prussian" says Bystron. "There is no particular musical style. If it had to be categorised, the term 'cross over' in its true sense would come closest."

Only the lyrics and their meaning remain indeed truly German, although the wording has become more metaphoric and more ornate. "The statements remain clear, but the rhetoric is more selective", Alexx Wesselsky describes his lyrics. "The attitude of musical social criticism - particularly apparent with bands like 'Ton Steine Scherben' - should not be completely left to Hip Hop, but also maintained by rock bands." He refers to tracks like "Glas und Tränen" (Glass And Tears) with its obvious political message as well as "I.M. Rumpelstilzchen", which deals with denunciation. On the other hand there is the very personal "An deinem Grab"(At Your Grave): The song poses the question as to who will really be mourning for a person on their last day on earth. And there is "F.F.F.", a German cover version. Have you already managed to trace it back to its famous original? Billy Idol springs to mind . . .

"Herzwerk II" was produced at the "Plan 1" Studio in Munich by Ralf Weigand, one of Germany's most renowned producers. His work with Such A Surge or Sportfreunde Stiller earned him international acclaim. Megaherz took the Weigand tapes and went to New York to have them mastered at the "Sony Mastering Studios" by Vlado Meller (famous for his work for Limp Bizkit, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage Against The Machine etc.). The result is a brilliant one in every respect."Herzwerk II" is an outstanding and gripping album: Fans will be able to argue about it, and that is exactly the intention of the band and their music. For, there is one thing Megaherz has always been about, and that is musical whole food for people with brains and sense.
Himmelfahrt Bio (2000)

Megaherz was founded in 1993! Convinced that they could wed hard music with German lyrics, without sounding like "New German Wave" or "Bewildered Krautrock", Alexander v. Weygand and his four former colleagues castoff for new shores! Living in the "Metropolis with a Heart", under the influence of "Megadeth" and the nightmare of the "Wildecker Herzbuben", a German "Folk Music" band, ("Herzilein", a song by the band meaning "little heart") the white & blue ("Weiss-Blau" is the name of the Bavarian Flag) five quickly decided that "Megaherz" was the only proper name for the band, that even today the program is: Hard, But With A Heart! Originating under the unmistakable influence of crossover/grunge/industrial acts like Clawfinger, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Pantera, and Rage Against The Machine the first demo CD "Herzwerk" (A Work of Heart) saw the light of the world in January 1995! Without a doubt "Herzwerk" , probably because of the German lyrics, led the band to initial contact with the radio and TV media. And due to the consistent avoidance of the omnipotent anglo-american text-culture, people noticed that Megaherz actually had something to say. Consequently the band had to be prepared to be understood also! The sudden analysis and discussions of the textual contents that commenced proved them to be right - the time was ripe for rock music with German lyrics - even if the first official Megaherz CD "Wer Bist Du" (approx. 16,000 copies sold) did not appear until 1997!

Under contract since 1996 with the record label "Golden Core" and marketed by ZYX Music GmbH, Megaherz (in the meantime from the original lineup only frontman Alexx v. Weygand remained) had finally found a partner, that believed in them and most importantly did not disturb their creative development! From the beginning Megaherz was always given the chance to bring to press exactly those songs which the band wanted to publish.

In the autumn of 1997 Megaherz toured as support for "Subway To Sally" through the German speaking countries and in 1998 - after several solo performances - one could already marvel at the tremendous live potential of the band on the stages of some of Germany's (and Europe's) largest festivals: Hurricane-, Highfield-, Zillo-, Rhein Culture- and the Danube Island-Festival in Vienna! In many rock clubs around the country, the song "Gott Sein" developed into a hit song and by August 1998 the five jack-of-hearts returned once again to the studio, where they began working on their second CD "Kopfschuss"!

Following the respectable success of "Wer Bist Du", the five likable pistols from Munich expanded their fan base in 1998 with "Kopfschuss" (approx. 25,000 copies sold)! Megaherz titles, such as "Miststück", "Herz Aus Stein" and "Kopfschuss", established themselves in the clubs as dancefloor fillers, while the band unremittingly toured and played with such acts as H-Blockx, Schweisser, HIM, Motörhead, Danzig, Saxon, Extrabreit and many more! In the meantime it was possible for Frank, Wenz, X-tian, Noel Pix and Alexx to be treated by the print, radio, and TV media as an act that was worthy of continual observation and coverage (Hammer, Sonic Seducer, Rock Hard, Musikweek, etc.). The single "Freiflug" earned Megaherz position 7 in the German Alternative Charts (dac) and viva 2 placed the video in their rotation!

Parallel to the development in the national sector, Megaherz can proudly refer to the efforts of the US college radiostations. Even the Australian radiostation Triple-J could not resist transmitting a Megaherz Special through the continental aether (air)!

In May 1999, Alexx v. Weygand and his entourage secluded themselves once again in the studio catacombs of the time-honoured monastic city of Freising in Bavaria to produce their newest work "Himmelfahrt"! An honest, direct, rocking album was intended, that could be translated into a perfect live performance and would offer the fans what they expect from a German speaking band like Megaherz: a clear, understandable message, that everyone can form their own thoughts about. The Megaherz is beating "Hard, But With A Heart" with the power of five hearts! The goal of the Megaherzen has been and still is, though the emotional power of honest rock music to brush aside language and mental barriers and to help the German Hard Rock-Pop of the late 90's to a place of value within the European market so that it, and they, can endure in the third millennium.

Wendisch-Rambow

Till Lindemann grew up in a small village called Wendisch-Rambow. Smokes and drinks. Divorced, but has two children, both girls, one age 15, the other 5. His first band was First Arsch, and was the drummer. His father died, but Till has never seen his grave. Lives in a flat in Berlin. Hates pop music. Has a fish for a pet. Till was not an Olympic swimmer due to a torn stomach muscle in 1988, but was a youth champion. First band was First Arsch, as a drummer.

When he was younger and spent time in Schwerin he earned money by basket plaiting. Nowadays he lives in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg, in a top flat with big widows. He likes Marilyn Manson and other heavy stuff, but also listens to Chris Isaak and some calmer "things". Haha!

Attended Berlin Premier of XXX with bandmates Oliver Riedel and Christoph "Doom" Schneider

Used to be a youth-champion swimmer. A torn off muscle in his stomach ended his swiming. If not we would maybe have know him as the famous swimmer Till Lindemann. He sometimes wear glasses. Has an aquarium with fishes at home.

Has two daughters - Nele from his first marriage, Marie Louise from his relationship with Anja Koesling.

~Werner~Gitta~

Grew up with his mother, Gitte, father, Werner and a sister six years younger.

His mother has recently retired from journalism and his Father, now deceased, was a poet.

Till's parents divorced when he was just 12.

He had sex for the first time when he was 16 at a haystack.

Refused to do his military service and was almost thrown in prison beacuse of that

Has recently completed signings of his book "Messer" in Germany.

Ordered to pay a total of DM1200 (~600 EUR) in damages by a court in the city of Dresden (Germany) to ex girlfriend Anja Koesling, after her allegations of an incident involving herself and Till at a hotel in October 1997. It was reported that he punched her in the nose. His lawyers and himself have refused to make any comment on the subject.

Last name is misspelled as "Lindermann" on the American version of the group's "Sehnsucht" album.

His father died in November of 1992, after drinking himself to death and was buried in the grounds of a church near Wendisch-Rambow.

When he wrote the lyrics to the song "Heirate Mich" he was inspired by his father's death. He has actually a lincense for the fire works he's doing at stage.
Personal characteristics

Till Lindemann has a powerful onstage presence. One of his signature moves is to partially squat and pound his fist onto his thigh to the beat of the riff, in the manner of a deranged blacksmith.

Till Lindemann is a qualified pyrotechnician. After an accident at the Treptow arena in Berlin on September 27, 1996, where a burning stage prop fell into the audience, Rammstein began employing a professional pyrotechnical crew and Lindemann has learned and trained with them. Each band member is specially instructed on the pieces of pyrotechnical equipment they use on stage.

According to Lindemann, he likes Chris Isaak, Marilyn Manson, Jean-Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Mike Oldfield, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, Type O Negative, Limp Bizkit, Placebo, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, and jazz in the park on a Sunday afternoon. He says, "for me Kraftwerk was the first real German band."

At one time, he did have his left ear pierced, twice, but has worn no earring in a long time. You can see the two holes in his ear in most videos and pictures. He has no known tattoos. As far as religious beliefs go, Till Lindemann has stated that he is an atheist.

As of October 2004 he has four children: two girls and at least one boy (the gender of the fourth is unknown)..
Personal Background

Till Lindemann was born in Leipzig, but he grew up in the village of Wendisch-Rambow in Schwerin (East Germany). His father, Werner Lindemann, was a poet, and his mother, Brigitte (Gitta) Lindemann, is an artist and writer who has co-written at least one book with her husband. Till Lindemann has one sister, six years younger than himself. At age 11 he went to a sports school at the Rostock Sports Club, and from 1977-1980 attended a boarding school. His parents divorced in 1975, when he was age 12.

In the years 1976-1979, Lindemann was a good swimmer who became junior vice-European champion. He finally left sports school in 1979. It is possible that he was thrown out of sports school due to him sneaking out, unaccompanied, of a hotel in Italy on a swimming tour. But he also suffered an injury, a torn abdominal muscle - so either reason could be valid. According to Lindemann, "I never liked the sport school actually, it was very intense. But as a child you don't object."

His first job was at a peat cutting company, but he was fired after three days. He worked as an apprentice carpenter, a gallery technician, and was most well-known as a basket weaver.

In 1981, Till Lindemann apparently refused to do his 9 months compulsory military service and was almost imprisoned because of the refusal. Many young men used to do "Ersatzdienst" or "substitute or reserve service", so he may have done this.

In 1985, when Lindemann was 22, his first daughter, Nele, was born. Lindemann and Nele's mother married after she was born, but they separated and he has raised Nele alone. Lindemann says, "I used to play drums in a punk band and we had our studio in the house where I lived. Seven years I had been a father raising his daughter, but nowadays I'm sharing the upbringing with her mother, because I'm gone for six months of the year with the band."

The Berlin Wall came down November 9th, 1989, and Germany started its path to reunification. On this, Lindemann says, "After the wall had been opened, I drove to West Germany and bought gummy bears and yogurt for my salutation money. But there wasn't anything else."

His father died in November of 1992, of the effects of alcohol. He was buried in the grounds of a church near Wendisch-Rambow.

Lindemann had a second daughter with Anja Köseling, his former partner/wife. Köseling claimed Lindemann abused her physically during their relationship and that he refused to pay child support for their daughter, Marie-Louise (b. ca. 1993). Lindemann has never commented on her claim.

In a radio interview in 2004, Lindemann stated that he wants to retire at 50 to spend more time with his children.
Musical career

In 1986, he started to play drums for First Arsch, also known as "First Art": a play on words perhaps meant to distract the authorities. It was a Schwerin-based punk band. They made one album titled Saddle Up.

Till Lindemann also played in a band called Feeling B. A song called Leid von der unruhevollen Jugend (Song of the Restless Youth) is credited on the album called Hea Hoa Hoa Hoa Hea Hoa Hea (1990).

Later in the 1990's, Lindemann began to write lyrics, possibly based on phrases and words from poems that he was beginning to write. He says he "used to drum in a punk band that consisted of bass and drums. We used to work with guest-guitarists, usually Paul Landers and Richard Kruspe. We did a short tour where I changed instruments with the bassist in the encore, that was such a success, that Richard insisted on starting a project in which I would sing. Other people joined the band but only when I left Schwerin for Berlin did it take serious form."

In 1994, they entered and won a contest in Berlin that allowed them to professionally record a four track demo. Till Lindemann moved to Berlin. Paul Landers formally joined the band, followed by the last member to join, Christian 'Flake' Lorenz.

It's well documented that all the band members had women problems about the time Herzeleid was written, and this appears to have provided Lindemann with excellent writing material. Herzeleid was finally released in September 1995. Two years later, in August 1997, the band's breakthrough album, Sehnsucht, was released.

On June 5, 1999 in Worcester, Massachusetts (USA) Till Lindemann and Flake Lorenz were arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious behavior. A statement from Sgt. Thomas Radula of the Worcester Police Department stated that Lindemann was simulating sex with Flake onstage "using a phallic object that shot water over the crowd." They were held and released the following day on $25 bail. After months of legal debate, they were eventually fined $100.

Consequently, in November 2002 Lindemann's own project, the poetry book Messer, was published. It consists of 54 poems compiled by Gert Hof, who is author of the book Rammstein and has been the band's pyrodesigner for the last seven years. This book is due to be re-printed in 2005 due to a campaign by a fansite

In 2003 he started work on the fourth album, which was to prove a turning point in Rammstein's sound and maturity. September 2004 saw the fruits of this work in the release of Reise Reise. As of 2005, Lindemann continues to work with Rammstein. As stated previously in various interviews, the loss of Till Lindemann, or any other band member, will be the end of the band proper.

Rammstein are scheduled to release a new album (Rosenrot), containing new songs and songs remaining from the recording of Reise Reise, on November 7th, 2005.
Trivia
Till's last name is pronounced "Lind-uh-man".

__________________________________________________РАММЫ__________________________________________
Rammstein was started by Richard Z. Kruspe-Bernstein. In 1989 he escaped from East Germany over theborder between Austria and Hungary. He eventually ended up in West Berlin and started a band in 1993 (Orgasm Death Gimmicks). At that time he was very influenced by American music. After the wall came down, he moved back home to Schwerin where Till Lindemann (the singer of Rammstein) worked as a basket weaver and played drums in the band First Arsch.
At this time, Richard lived with Oliver Riedel (of the band The Inchtabokatables) and Christoph Doom Schneider (of Die Firma). Richard realized that the music he had previously made was not right for him. He envisioned something with machines and hard guitars together. The three started working together on a new project.

Richard soon found it hard to write music and lyrics at the same time. He got Till to join them as he had often heard him singing while working. A contest for new bands was announced and the prize was studio time. The four of them recorded the first Rammstein demo and won. Paul Landers knew them all and wanted to know what they were doing. After listening, he agreed to join. At this point, all they needed for the machine-sound was a keyboarder. They tried to get Christian 'Flake' Lorenz to join, as he had played with Paul before in the band Feeling B. Flake was not entirely thrilled with the idea at first and didn't want to join for a long time. But, he eventually agreed.

About the time the band was formed, they all had relationship problems which provided the foundation for their debut album Herzeleid (Heartache) in 1995. Since then, they have reached gold and platinum status for their music and have become Germany's number one music export.

They took their name (adding an 'm') from the location of a German tragedy where 80 people were hurt and killed as the result of a crash during an American Air Force flight show (video). The literal translation of 'ram stein' is a battering ram made of stone.

Controversies
Rammstein have not been shy of courting controversy and have periodically attracted condemnation from morality campaigners. Their stage act earned them a night in jail in June 1999 after the infamous giant dildo was used in a concert in Worcester, Massachusetts. Back home in Germany, the band has faced repeated accusations of fascist sympathies due to the dark and sometimes militaristic imagery of their videos and concerts, including the use of extracts from a propaganda film by Leni Riefenstahl in the video for Stripped. Also, when the album Herzeleid originally came out in Germany in 1995, they were met with accusations from the media and critics that they were trying to sell themselves as 'poster boys for the Master Race'. Rammstein have denied this vigorously and the members of the band have said that they want nothing to do with politics as well as supremacy of any kind. The song Links 2 3 4 was written as a riposte to these claims. According to Kruspe, it means, ''my heart beats on the left, two, three, four.' It's simple. If you want to put us in a political category, we're on the left side, and that's the reason we made the song.' (The Grand Rapids Press, Jul. 22, 2001). Of course this is a two-sided thing, since 'Links 2 3 4' is the usual command in marching practice in the German army, 'Links' referring to the left foot in that case.

In April 1999, it emerged that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold - the two boys who perpetrated the Columbine High School massacre - were fans of Rammstein and had declared it to be one of their favourite bands. Rammstein came under heavy criticism from conservative and Christian groups in the United States, who claimed (among other things) that Till Lindemann's rolling Teutonic r's were an imitation of Adolf Hitler's diction. In response, the band issued a statement:

The members of Rammstein express their condolences and sympathy to all affected by the recent tragic events in Denver. They wish to make it clear that they have no lyrical content or political beliefs that could have possibly influenced such behavior. Additionally, members of Rammstein have children of their own, in whom they continually strive to instill healthy and non-violent values.

Jeff Weise of the Red Lake High School massacre was also said to have been a fan.

Following the tragic conclusion of the Beslan school hostage crisis in Russia in September 2004, Russian authorities claimed that the hostage-takers had listened to German hard rock group Rammstein on personal stereos during the siege to keep themselves edgy and fired up. The claim has not been independently confirmed, and the Russian authorities are known to have been concerned that Rammstein was too appealing to 'undesirable' elements in Russian society. A Rammstein concert in Moscow scheduled for July 19, 2002 was cancelled due to fears that it would attract skinheads.

In October 2004, the video for Mein Teil caused considerable controversy in Germany when it was released. It takes a darkly comic view of the Armin Meiwes cannibalism case, showing musicians of the band being held on a leash by a transvestite and rolling around in mud. The controversy did nothing to stop (and may even have helped) the single rising to No. 2 in the German charts.

The band's own views of its image are sanguine: 'We like being on the fringes of bad taste,' according to Paul Landers, while Flake Lorenz comments: 'The controversy is fun, like stealing forbidden fruit. But it serves a purpose. We like audiences to grapple with our music, and people have become more receptive.' (The Times, Jan 29, 2005)

The band's latest album, Rosenrot, was released on October 28, 2005. A number of songs that were left out of Reise, Reise for dramaturgical reasons make up the majority of the album, but a number of new songs have also been recorded. The band performed "Benzin", the first single from the album, at four shows in Wuhlheide Park on June 23-26, 2005, and four shows in the UK (Newcastle, Birmingham, Glasgow and Cardiff) in July 2005.

Richard Kruspe played in his old band Orgasm Death Gimmick. Divorced but re-married to actress Caren Bernstein on October 29th, 1999. One daughter, Khira Li Lindemann. No, she's not related to Till Lindemann. Lindemann was the last name of Richard's first wife, who was also Till's first wife. Sven is his Christian name. Wrote the song Engel by himself. Did not get along well with his step-father. Loved Kiss when he was younger, but his step-father tore down his Kiss poster in his room and Richard put it back together and hung it back up. Very protective of his family. Smokes and drinks.

Lead guitarist and co-founder of German industrial band "Rammstein" along with drummer Christoph "Doom" Schneider.

Former member of Orgasm Death Gimmicks formed in the West after he escaped over the green border between Austria an Hungary.

Sometime in 2001 he moved from Berlin to New York where he now resides.

Speaks fluent English.

Parents divorced while he was a child, mother remarried and he continued to live in his difficult childhood home with his brother and two sisters.

Daughter: Khira Li Lindemann (b. 1992)

He was born in Wittenburg, Germany. He has two older sisters and an older brother. His parents divorced when he was young. His mother remarried, and he did not get along with his step-father. They moved to the village of Weisen when he was young.

As a child, Kruspe was a fan of Kiss. According to him, Kiss 'represented capitalism in its purest sense, and every child was Kiss infected because they were so big. Kids wrote Kiss on their notebooks, and if the teachers saw it they could get kicked out of school just for having it written on their books.' When he was twelve, he had a Kiss poster in his room, but his step-father tore it down and destroyed it, and Richard was up all night putting it back together.

Richard was a wrestler as a teenager.

His acutal Christian name is Sven, not Richard!

At the age of sixteen, Richard Kruspe and some friends visited Czechoslovakia, where he bought a guitar. He had originally planned to sell it, because they were very expensive and thought he could make a nice profit. However, once he got back to East Germany, a girl at a campground he was staying at asked him to play. He told her that he couldn't play, but she kept insisting, and Kruspe got mad and starting strumming the strings. 'The harder I played,' Richard said, 'the more excited she got. Something clicked in my head and I realized girls like guys who play guitars.' This got him interested in playing the guitar, and as a result, he began playing every day and night for the next two years.

At the age of nineteen, bored with the apathetic music scene in his home town, he moved to East Berlin and lived on the Lychener Straße and "made music all day'. For two years, Richard lived in an apartment with a drum kit and a guitar, and he made music by himself because he did not know anybody there. 'It was a lonely time' according to Kruspe, but he used it to explore music.

On 10 October 1989, prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall, he was riding through the subway. When he came above ground, Richard found himself in the middle of a political demonstration. He was hit on the head and arrested just for being there, and thrown in jail for six days. Once out of jail, he decided to leave East Germany. In those days, one couldn't just leave East Germany, so he entered West Germany through Czechoslovakia. When the wall came down, he moved back east.

Around 1991, Richard started the band Orgasm Death Gimmick.

In 1992 or 1993, his daughter, Khira Li Lindemann, was born. She is the daughter of Till Lindemann's ex-wife.

In this year, Richard made his first trip to the USA with Till Lindemann and Oliver Riedel. He realizes that he doesn't want to make American music and concentrates on creating a unique German sound.

The band Rammstein was "born" in January of 1994 when Till, Ollie, Christoph Schneider and Richard won a Berlin Music Competition, the prize of which was a professional demo or four songs, presumably to get them a record deal. They asked Paul Landers and Christian 'Flake' Lorenz of Feeling B to join them. Flake was the last to join. After that, the group began work on their first album, Herzeleid.

Richard married South African actress Caron Bernstein in 1999. The ceremony was Jewish and Richard composed the music for it. Richard took on the named Richard Kruspe-Bernstein during their marriage. They are believed to have divorced sometime in 2003 or 2004.

Richard began work on a solo project around this time, called Emigrate and work continues on it to this day. He has said he wants to record an album in 2005. No other Rammstein band members are involved.
Personal

He speaks excellent English with a strong American accent. Richard Kruspe is always immaculately dressed.

He lost a large ornate ring while on tour in 2001; it has never been found. One of the more unusual (but ever-increasing) characteristics are his painted fingernails.

When asked if he believes in God, Richard says, "No. I believe in life justice, that everything that you do, you get back. It's justice and it's what I believe in." Still, he is spiritual saying he "practices the 5 Tibetan rejuvenating rites each day."

Richard likes Kiss, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Big Black, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Suicidal Tendencies, and Pantera. He has worked as a cashier and a salesman, and cleaning the apartment for an older woman who had her pet poodles stuffed (one for every year).
